Frequently asked questions

  • How does Deeny calculate prayer times, and how accurate are they?
Deeny computes your times from your location using established astronomical calculation methods. On first launch it sends your approximate (roughly city-level) coordinates to the Aladhan prayer-times service, which returns a full year's schedule that is then cached on your device. You can pick the method that matches your local mosque — Muslim World League, ISNA, Egyptian General Authority, Umm al-Qura, and others — under Settings → Prayer times → Calculation method. Accuracy depends on the method and location you choose; if your times look off, double-check both.
  • Why does Deeny need my location, and is it private?
Your location is used only to calculate your prayer times and Qibla direction. It is reduced to roughly city-level accuracy and sent only to the Aladhan prayer-times service — it is never stored by us, never linked to your identity, and never used for advertising or profiling. Deeny has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no trackers, and your prayer log and worship data stay on your device.
  • How much is Deeny Pro, and how do I cancel?
Deeny is free to start. Deeny Pro is an auto-renewable subscription offered as a monthly plan and a discounted 6-month plan; the exact price for your region — and any introductory free-trial terms — are always shown in the app before you confirm. It renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. To cancel: open the iPhone Settings app → tap your name (Apple ID) → Subscriptions → Deeny → Cancel Subscription. Subscriptions are managed by Apple, so cancellation happens there rather than inside Deeny.
  • I already paid — how do I restore my subscription?
On a new device, or after reinstalling Deeny, open any Deeny Pro screen and tap “Restore Purchases” in the footer. Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID, so signing in with the same Apple ID you bought it with restores Pro at no extra charge.
  • What is Salah Focus, and how do I turn it off?
Salah Focus (part of Deeny Pro) is a self-imposed focus tool. You choose which of your own distracting apps to lock, and from each adhan those apps stay shielded by Apple's Screen Time until you confirm — with a short oath — that you have prayed. It is voluntary self-restriction, not parental control of anyone else; only you set it up, and even Deeny cannot see which apps you picked (Screen Time handles them as private, opaque tokens). To turn it off, disable Salah Focus in the app. To fully revoke the permission, go to the iPhone Settings app → Screen Time and remove Deeny's access.
  • How do I set up the Fajr alarm?
Open the Ibadah tab and tap “Fajr alarm.” Set your wake time relative to Fajr, choose how you want to dismiss it (for example scan a code, walk, or shake) and which sound to use, then enable it. It rings through silent mode because it uses the system AlarmKit alarm, and snooze keeps re-confronting you until you complete the wake-up.
  • My notifications aren't appearing — how do I fix them?
First, make sure notifications are allowed for Deeny in the iPhone Settings app → Notifications → Deeny. Then check that the prayer reminders you want are switched on in Deeny under Settings → Reminders (each prayer's reminder can be set individually). Finally, make sure a Focus or Do Not Disturb mode isn't silencing them.
  • Can I use Deeny in French or Arabic?
Yes. Deeny is fully available in English, French, and Arabic, with right-to-left layout for Arabic. You choose your language when you first set up the app, and Deeny otherwise follows your iPhone's language. To change it for Deeny specifically, open the iPhone Settings app → Deeny → Preferred Language and pick English, Français, or العربية.
  • How do I delete my data?
Deeny stores your prayer log, streaks, settings, and worship data only on your device — there is no account and no copy of it on our servers. To delete all of it, simply delete the Deeny app from your iPhone; that removes everything.
